Oscar Nominations are here!

Golden Man
"Credit to The Oscars"

It's that time of the year where the little Golden Man gets delt to actors, actresses, directors, and others and all of us fans of these projects talk about winners, snubs and shocking moments. In this article you'll find out a majority of the Oscar categories and their nominations and who I predict will walk away from that majestic trophy, Let's begin.

*Note: I have not seen all of these movies but have heard enough about them to understand why they got their nomination.

Best Picture:

  • American Fiction

  • Anatomy of a Fall

  • Barbie

  • The Holdovers

  • Killers of the Flower Moon

  • Maestro

  • Oppenheimer

  • Past Lives

  • Poor Things

  • The Zone of

While I haven't seen all of these movies on this list, I have heard nothing but great things about them. In my personal opinion, Oppenheimer will win the Oscar for Best Picture.

Best Actor:

  • Bradley Cooper, Maestro

  • Colman Domingo, Rustin

  • Paul Giamatti, The Holdovers

  • Cillian Murphy, Oppenheimer

  • Jeffery Wright, American Fiction

What a great list of actors we have here. I do think it comes down to Murphy and Giamatti and ultimately Cillian Murphy will walk away as the Best Actor.

Best Actress:

  • Annette Bening, Nyad

  • Lily Gladstone, Killers of the Flower Moon

  • Sandra Huller, Anatomy of a Fall

  • Carey Mulligan, Maestro

  • Emma Stone, Poor Things

This is a tough one simply because I can see them all winning, and I would be fine with that. However, I do think Lily Gladstone will win Best Actress.

Best Supporting Actress:

  • Emily Blunt, Oppenheimer

  • Danielle Brooks, The Color Purple

  • America Ferrera, Barbie

  • Jodie Foster, Nyad

  • Da'Vine Joy Randolph, The Holdovers

This is another list where I would be content with all of them winning, but I believe America Ferrera will win Best Supporting Actress.

Best Supporting Actor.

  • Sterling K. Brown, American Fiction

  • Robert De Niro, Killers of the Flower Moon

  • Robert Downey Jr., Oppenheimer

  • Ryan Gosling, Barbie

  • Mark Ruffalo, Poor Things

We have some big hitters in this category! I have a strong feeling that this category will have people really talking. Ultimately, Robert Downey Jr. is my pick for Best Supporting Actor.

Best Director:

  • Justine Triet, Anatomy of a Fall

  • Martin Scorsese, Killers of the Flower Moon

  • Christopher Nolan, Oppenheimer

  • Yorgos Lanthimos, Poor Things

  • Jonathan Glazer, The Zone of Interest

A great group of films in this one and some great directors as well. I can see it coming down to Scorsese and Nolan but Christopher Nolan walking away as Best Director.

Animated Feature:

  • The Boy and the Heron

  • Elemental

  • Nimona

  • Robot Dreams

  • Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

I think all of these films are great, but it really comes down to two for me; The Boy and the Heron and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Animation is top notch so it makes this a tough decision, but I do believe Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will win Animated Feature.

Cinematography:

  • Edward Lachman, El Conde

  • Rodrigo Prieto, Killers of the Flower Moon

  • Matthew Libatique, Maestro

  • Hoyte van Hoytema, Oppenheimer

  • Robbie Ryan, Poor Things

It's no secret that cinematography is key with all films, so who do I think will win the Oscar for Cinematography? While I haven't see all of these movies, Rodrigo Prieto will walk away as the winner.

Original Score:

  • Laura Karpman, American Fiction

  • John Williams, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

  • Robbie Robertson, Killers of the Flower Moon

  • Ludwig Goransson, Oppenheimer

  • Jerskin Fendrix, Poor Things

The music that makes these films pop and where I can cruise around and listen to the soundtrack is what its worth. To me, this is an easy decision for Original Score because the man can make a bad movie be enjoyable just with his fantastic score and that is Ludwig Goransson.

Production Design:

  • Barbie

  • Killers of the Flower Moon

  • Napoleon

  • Oppenheimer

  • Poor Things

When you see the props in the background of films and say "wow, that looks great and fits the movie!" then that should be the winner of Production Design and to me, Barbie is that film.

Visual Effects:

  • The Creator

  • Godzilla Minus One

  • Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

  • Mission Impossible- Dead Reckoning Part One

  • Napoleon

This is another category where I will be happy with whoever wins. For me, it comes down to Godzilla Minus One and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Those films looked incredible on the big screen, but I think Godzilla Minus One will win the Oscar for Visual Effects.

Original Song:

  • "The Fire Inside", Flamin' Hot

  • "I'm Just Ken", Barbie

  • "It Never Went Away", American Symphony

  • "Wahzhazhw (A Song for My People), Killers of the Flower Moon

  • "What Was I Made For?", Barbie

Don't lie, you have probable sang a majority of these in the car, in the shower or just out loud to yourself and rightfully so because these are great songs! However, the one that I think will win Original Song is one that so many people sang and that is "I'm Just Ken" from Barbie.

There we have it! Now, as I stated at the beginning, these are not all of the categories so if you want to find the full list then look them up online! This year's Oscars will be a great showcase for so many amazing and talented people in this industry. I do think we had quite a few snubs this year and once the actual award ceremony happens I will do a recap of everything. Who do you think will win and who was snubbed?!
