Long Live the King!!! Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire Review.

In 1933, King Kong was introduced to the world. A movie that was, at the time, a story of beauty and the beast. In 1954, Godzilla was introduced to the world as a story of the dangers of nuclear bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. May have things changed over time. This year, with Legendary introducing us to their Monsterverse a few years ago, we get the latest chapter in "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire". And I’ve gotta tell ya, I loved this movie!!!!

Growing up watching the many versions of both these titans, I have come to love the Monsterverse. So this time around, I was looking forward to seeing how these two titans would fair after their last encounter. Honestly, in my opinion, I wasn’t disappointed. You get a story that has some things that didn’t make sense (tooth), but other than that, I thought this was a fun film for a good night of entertainment. One thing that I could have done without was the human element. Yes, we have to have them there to push the story along, but there were some things that I could have done without. Nothing against Brian Tyree Henry, but some of his comedy fell flat. There were some moments that were cool, but you could definitely feel some things were not as funny as they could have been.

Now when it comes to the story overall, it’s all about really finding your place in the world. Be it hollow earth where Kong is or on the surface where our human characters dwell. Keep an eye open for Jia (Kaylee Hottle) in this movie, as her relationship with Kong and her adoptive mother Dr. Ilene Andrews (Rebecca Hall) is key to what most parents go through when dealing with teenagers and our fear of them branching out away from us. As a parent of a teenager, I felt this to my sole. I even looked at my son who was sitting next to me in the theater and felt the anguish of Hall’s character. The movie gave us a new threat to the world in the form of another ape, Skar King who rules his fellow apes with fear and a very powerful titan named Shimo who is an ice titan. Watch closely as their dynamic is key to the way this movie really plays out.

As I said, this movie didn’t disappoint me in that it gave me what I came to see, TITANS FIGHTING TITANS!!!!!  You get Kong vs other apes, Kong vs Skar King, Kong vs Shimo and even Kong vs Godzilla for a bit. As a wrestling fan, you definitely get some 901 Wrestling action going here. I’m pretty sure Kong has been watching our shows from Memphis to get his moves from down one of the Bluff City Boss Don Montana’s matches while he was fighting Skar King.

Overall, I would give this a 3.5/5 Beyond The Batcave Stars!
