These are two truths about NXT: the developmental path for WWE and their shows and PLE's can sometimes be better than Raw, Smackdown and some of the main roster's PLE's. On February 4th, 2024 NXT gave us a fantastic show in Vengeance Day! Here you will see the matches and the results so if you haven't seen the PLE then here is your spoiler warning! Let's begin.
Men's Dusty Classic Final: Trick Melo Gang (Trick Williams & Carmelo Hayes) vs. The Wolf Dogs (Barron Corbin & Born Breakker)
Winner- The Wolf Dogs
Grade- B+
Thoughts- To be the match that kicked off this PLE, it absolutely delivered! Knowing Trick has another match later in the show kind of told me the route they were going but this match was awesome! I will say that it had some miscues and mishaps but overall it was great!
No Disqualification Match: Dijak vs. Joe Gacy
Winner- Dijak
Grade- B
Thoughts- Talk about hard hitting...boy did this match really have some crazy spots! First off, Gacy is a mad man and just loves the pain and smiles through it all and secondly, I knew he was a collector! As soon as he laid out those hot wheels and other toys on the table to throw Dijak on, I was impressed!
The Family vs. OTM (w/ Scrypts)
Winner- The Family
Grade- C+
Thoughts- This was the dip in the card for me as I wasn't really excited for this tag match. However, you don't mess with the Don and his family, ya hear me?
NXT Women's Championship: Lyra Valkyria (c) vs. Roxanne Perez
Winner- Lyra Valkyria
Grade- A
Thought- This match was cooking from start to finish! They even threw Lola Vice in there as she cashed in her NXT Breakout's Contract to make the match a Triple Threat and it just made the match even better! All 3 competitors were killing it, but I am a Rozanne Stan and I do wish she got the win but I am not upset at all about the match!
North American Championship: Oba Femi (c) vs. Dragon Lee
Winner- Oba Femi
Grade- B+
Thoughts- Oba is the future man. He is huge, has that IT factor and has the fans on his side already! HBK was smart for putting that North American Championship on his so early because I can't see anyone dethroning him!
NXT Championship: Ilja Dragunov (c) vs. Trick Williams (w/ Carmelo Hayes)
Winner- Ilja Dragunov
Grade- A+
Thoughts- What a main event! This match has everything I wanted and more. The story of Trick always fighting and never giving up, Ilja being a mad man, the blood sweat and tears being shown and the heartbreaking ending. Ilja is a great champ and even though everyone wants Trick to be the NXT Champion, his sights are now set on his former friend, brother and partner, Carmelo Hayes. Hayes brutally attacked Williams after the match with multiple chair shots and the heel turn was complete.
Overall, NXT Vengeance Day was a great PLE. I enjoyed all of the matches and really liked the storytelling during each match. I saw passion, defeat and confusion during the entire show and that's what I wanted. I would give Vengeance Day an overall A-.
